Countless people live relatively conventional lives, even settling down in the small towns where they grew up, and never traveling outside of their state's borders. Other people start traveling internationally at a young age, and at some point in their lives choose to explore the world outside of their country's borders.

The protagonist in this story would clearly fall into the latter category. Raised in Vancouver, in an unusual family led by a father passionate about opera, the protagonist quickly gains a broader perspective on life than his peers. Years later, he travels to Seattle, and becomes a soldier in the Vietnam War. After getting injured in combat, he attends a state college. But even that life is not captivating enough for this troubled young man. So he travels to Israel, and joins a kibbutz, where he learns a great deal about Jewish culture, and is subsequently recruited by Mossad. He experiences adventure that could only be dreamed of by his childhood friends.

While not formally a memoir, this book is based on true events, and would prove fascinating to anyone who would like to learn more about surviving the Vietnam War, living in Israel, and serving in Mossad. In addition, the story describes events that occurred on the Golan Heights in 1973 that would be of tremendous interest to evangelical Christians.
